Flower and Bird Chinese Scroll Painting – Silk Wall Art – Peony Colorful Gongbi

Here a flower-and-bird scene take center stage in a traditional wall scroll, made for close, quiet looking. The bird-and-blossom subject gives the scroll its character — a familiar theme, painted with fresh eyes. Study it a while and blue bird, peony and colorful gongbi emerge from the background, each one carefully observed.

The colorful gongbi manner suits the subject perfectly — fine outlines filled with layered mineral color. People who collect this genre will read the meaning at once — the peony stands for prosperity and honor — it was the flower of imperial gardens. The palette leans soft blues and lively, varied color, which keeps the whole scroll calm and easy to place. The painting seems to breathe with the day's light, changing in small ways. Part of the charm is the upright format — the scene reveals itself as your eyes travel down.

For collectors of the flower-and-bird genre, this is a scroll that settles in without fuss. A dependable gift for someone growing a Chinese art collection — or just beginning one. It is a fine example of blue bird and peony Chinese painting, the kind of piece that grows on you.
